Julie Burkert has been a freelance flutist since 1986, when she received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance from CSUN. She has worked extensively in a wide variety of musical genres including Motion Picture and Television Recordings, Opera, Ballet, Symphony, Musical Theater, and Chamber Music.

Julie can be heard on dozens of Motion Picture and Television scores, and on major recording artists’ albums. She held long term positions as Piccolo/3rd Flute with the Opera Pacific Orchestra, and as Principal Flute with the Peninsula Ballet Theatre Orchestra, and she has performed with numerous orchestras in California including Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, San Francisco Opera Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony, Pacific Symphony, and many more.

One of Julie’s favorite projects was as Principal Flutist of Baz Luhrmann’s La Boheme on Broadway, performing in the San Francisco production, and on the Original Cast Recording. Julie has performed in pit orchestras in Los Angeles and San Francisco for many shows such as Wicked, The Lion King, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, as well as dozens more.

In addition, Julie has maintained a private teaching studio for over 35 years, and was previously on the faculty of Pepperdine University.

For the past 7 years, Julie has also been a member of the team at Encompass Music Partners as a Contract Administrator, combining her music industry experience and her love of numbers and spreadsheets.

Julie has raised three wonderful daughters, and she currently lives in Ventura, CA.
